Horry County residents have something new to smile about!

August 1, 2010 in Uncategorized by Brian Jordan

Horry County residents have  a new dental discount card program available that can help residents save an average of 20 to 50 percent on their dental care services, and 20 percent on orthodontic services. This affordable plan starts at $6.95 per month and $59 per year for individuals.

“The card is easy to use and will save people money,” said Lisa Bourcier, Public Information Officer. “Cardholders simply schedule an appointment with a participating dentist or specialist and present their card to receive a discount at the time of service. There are no forms to complete and everyone in the household is eligible to receive a discount.”  With this discount card, residents  will save on dental cleanings, x-rays, braces, dentures, crowns, root canals and more.

The Marvin Show: Duck Cordon Bleu

July 21, 2010 in Uncategorized by Brian Jordan

I asked Marvin what he would be cooking this week. He replied “Duck Cordon Bleu”.   Now, if It were Bobby Flay or Rachel Ray I would think, “That sounds pretty fancy. I could never cook that.” However, Marvin Latimer does not leave me with the same feeling. I think  to myself, “Oh. THIS is going to be good.”   You see, Marvin may start with the same ingredients, and end up with the same dish, but it is what happens in between that seperates THE MARVIN SHOW from those other cooking shows. Each one of Marvin’s dishes has a story behind it. I can only imagine a late night driving accident involving a Duck Crossing sign and a road full of feathers. Marvin will entertain you as he drinks shots and teaches you Ebonics. And in the end, there is a perfectly presented dish that would look good in any of the finest restaurants. Anyone who has worked in the restaurant business knows it takes their own version of “Marvin” to keep the kitchen running. Making it happen in 25 minutes of less, from the time of order till the food is on the plate. Watch THE MARVIN SHOW on WPDE-tv15 1:05am Saturday Night.

Horry County awards Adam Jordan the Infrastructure & Regulation Division Quarterly Award

April 27, 2010 in Uncategorized by horrycounty

Adam Jordan, Civil Engineering Associate 1 in the Horry County Engineering Department, won the Infrastructure & Regulation Division Quarterly Award for his ability to succeed while taking on many additional tasks all in the name of providing excellent customer service to other departments with the county and ultimately to the citizens of Horry County. In addition to taking on construction management of a boat ramp and county park facility projects, Adam also was assigned special projects outside of the realm of his typical land development and encroachment permit plan review and inspection responsibilities. Another special assignment that he successfully completed was the very recent repair and resurfacing of the parking lot at the Olin D. Blanton county office building with the City of Myrtle Beach. Congratulations!

Within weeks of Claire’s hire, the version that was initially installed was updated with an entirely different version. She has worked tirelessly with the installation team and has been methodical; employing her “repeatable process” for testing the data and in March of 2010 was successful in receiving the conversion of the Assessor’s Office 2009 and 2010 data. Congratulations!
