Why DID the Chicken cross the road, Marvin?

September 4, 2010 in Uncategorized by Brian Jordan

We all have our theories as to why the chicken crossed the road. My opinion is, the chicken heard he was on the menu of this weeks Marvin Show. Yes, Marvin Latimer is at it again, showing off his culinary skills with a local favorite: Chicken Bog.  If you have lived in Horry County more than 30 minutes, you have either eaten chicken bog or have been offered a plate of chicken bog. My advice, EAT IT.  Chicken bog is one of those local favorites that  is a simple dish to put together, but very easy to mess up. You could line up plates of chicken bog cooked by different family members, and I could probably tell you who cooked it.  Is there ever a bad chicken bog? Not really.  The real question is, does Marvin know how to cook chicken bog? Watch tonight to find out: WPDE-tv15 at 1:05am.

The Marvin Show: Cooking in 25 minutes or less

August 27, 2010 in Uncategorized by Brian Jordan

This week on The Marvin Show, Marvin Latimer shows us how to make a Cotton Candy Martini and a variety of Japanese dishes. He has 25 minutes to throw together his chosen dishes, and he usually pulls them off within the allotted time.  There have been mishaps in the past, such as giving himself third degree burns and setting the kitchen on fire, But, for the most part, he manages to get the dishes on the plate and make them look like something you would order from a nice restaurant. While watching The Marvin Show, it makes you realize that we really don’t know what happens in the kitchen at our favorite restaurant. If the food comes out looking right, we assume everything is fine in the kitchen. Marvin gives us a peak into the kitchen and entertains us while doing it. Do yourself a favor and watch The Marvin Show. It airs on wpde-tv15 every Saturday night at 1:05am. Also, if you are on Facebook, become a fan of The Marvin Show!

Where does fatback come from? Marvin says…….

August 21, 2010 in Uncategorized by Brian Jordan

The Marvin show airs on WPDE-tv15 every Saturday night at 1:05am. Is it a cooking show? Not really. Marvin calls it a “ghetto cooking show”, but says that he is a cook, not a chef, because chefs don’t have to do the dishes.  There is constant entertainment from the beginning of the show until the end, and Marvin always manages to get the dish on the plate before the show ends. Make sure you tune in Saturday nights at 1:05am on WPDE-tv15 to watch Marvin put together another masterpiece. So, where DOES fatback come from?   Tune in to find out!

The Marvin Show: Steak Quesadillas anyone?

July 29, 2010 in Uncategorized by Brian Jordan

If you missed The M-A-R-V-I-N Show last week, then you missed Daffy Duck’s revenge as Marvin managed to give himself 3rd degree burns.  While  he cooked up Duck Cordon Bleu, he did not miss a beat with his verbal assault on the camera.   Marvin managed to juggle the pan of hot grease without losing the duck, pulling off a save that would make the Harlem Globetrotters proud. It was painful to watch, especially the slow motion instant replay.  All the show needed was maybe Marv Albert & Howard Cosell doing a play by play as the grease splashed across his hand. I can almost hear Marv Albert explaining how it was a beautiful save and a moment that will earn him an honorable mention in the history books.

I Asked Marvin for the menu this week: “Steak Quesadillas” What? Are they deep fried steak quesadillas? No grease? Don’t worry. I’m sure Marvin will keep us all entertained while he allows his hand to recover. He has not let us down yet. I’m sure this week will not be an exception.

The Marvin Show: Duck Cordon Bleu

July 21, 2010 in Uncategorized by Brian Jordan

I asked Marvin what he would be cooking this week. He replied “Duck Cordon Bleu”.   Now, if It were Bobby Flay or Rachel Ray I would think, “That sounds pretty fancy. I could never cook that.” However, Marvin Latimer does not leave me with the same feeling. I think  to myself, “Oh. THIS is going to be good.”   You see, Marvin may start with the same ingredients, and end up with the same dish, but it is what happens in between that seperates THE MARVIN SHOW from those other cooking shows. Each one of Marvin’s dishes has a story behind it. I can only imagine a late night driving accident involving a Duck Crossing sign and a road full of feathers. Marvin will entertain you as he drinks shots and teaches you Ebonics. And in the end, there is a perfectly presented dish that would look good in any of the finest restaurants. Anyone who has worked in the restaurant business knows it takes their own version of “Marvin” to keep the kitchen running. Making it happen in 25 minutes of less, from the time of order till the food is on the plate. Watch THE MARVIN SHOW on WPDE-tv15 1:05am Saturday Night.

The Marvin Show: Not your average cooking show

July 9, 2010 in Uncategorized by Brian Jordan

The Marvin Show Before there was Big Brother, Marvin Latimer WAS a “Big Brother”.  He liked to eat and he liked to cook.  The Big Brother tv show allowed him to show off some of his talents, as well as his gift of gab. If I were a betting man, I would wager that Marvin has been told to “Get over there and sit down” plenty of times growing up, because he does like to become the center of attention. “The M-A-R-V-I-N Show” allows him to be the center of attention and cook too. If you are expecting one of those scripted Martha Stewart type shows, you may be a little surprised. What you see is what you get. If he forgets to cook the onions, they get tossed in just a little later with  a nonchalant suggestion that “You might want to cook the onions, cause I forgot to”.   But you will be entertained from the beginning to the end.  Don’t forget to set your DVR!
